Pantone’s color of the year is ‘Radiant Orchid.’ Please humor us with a few thoughts about this.

1.) Pantone? Who/What is this, and why do they have the power of determining the color of the year? Well, our friends and quality resource over at Wikipedia say this: Pantone Inc. is a corporation headquartered in Carlstadt, New Jersey.[1] The company is best known for its Pantone Matching System (PMS), a proprietary color space used in a variety of industries, primarily printing, though sometimes in the manufacture of colored paint, fabric, and plastics. {Call me childish, but I would have found a much better acronym than the PMS} 2.) Radiant Orchid? What a name for a color! Orchidacae is a diverse and widespread family of flowering plants with blooms that are often colourful and often fragrant, commonly known as the orchid family. While, ‘radiant’ is an adjective that means to send out light-shining brightly. 3.) What were the past Pantone colors of the years?

6.) Pantone wedding realism. Last year, we just saw a couple of emerald inspired weddings. This year, we don’t expect too many radiant orchid inspired weddings. Why? Because the color doesn’t have too many friends in the industry. Friends like bridesmaid gowns, linen matches, and whatnot. Radiant orchid is such a specific color that it will have to be appreciated in an ombre affect since every hue of it will likely be different. That being said, we’d still love to see a ‘radiant orchid’ wedding because it’s such a lovely color & aesthetic! 7.) If color were based on popularity, last year it would have either been mint/coral/or blush. This year our prediction is back to the classics- golds, ivories, neutrals, and blacks! 8.) On an unrelated point, but still worthy of discussing- how amazing would it be to A.) name colors? B.) select which color will be most popular for the year? Yeah… what an awesome job! Remember the game ‘LIFE’ and the LIFE piece that said ‘You named a new ice cream flavor, collect $10,000′? {If not, let’s pretend it wasn’t mentioned} Naming the color of the year would be right up there. Just sayin’ Hope you’re inspired for a colorful 2014, whether that’s Pantone or not 🙂
